PAL starts Adult Community Theater Project

The Atlantic City Police Athletic League presents its Adult Community Theater Project, which will bring professional adult theater to the heart of Atlantic City each month.

On Feb. 22, PAL will present “Growing Up in the Other Atlantic City,” a play based on author Turiya Raheem’s book, “Growing Up in the Other Atlantic City: Wash’s and the Northside” about the Washington family, who helped build and shape a vibrant and thriving African-American community in Atlantic City’s Northside neighborhood. The evening starts at 7 p.m. and includes the play, a meet the cast and author event for a Q and A session. Tickets are $10.

Pleasantville

Library hosts Black History poetry celebration

The Pleasantville branch of the Atlantic County Library System will host its annual Black History Poetry Celebration from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 19, at the library, 33 Martin L. King Jr. Ave.

The free event is presented by local poet Joanne Peopples and is suggested for teens and adults. The public may bring original work to share, recite favorite verses by authors, or be part of the listening audience. Space fills quickly. Registration is encouraged. Call the library at 609-641-1778.
