Cultural Arts Commission forming community theater

The Brigantine Cultural Arts Commission is looking for new members for its community theater group. Needed are stagehands, technicians and actors. Contact Joanne at 609-266-2806 or joannecprice@msn.com with info and availability in talents. There will be a meeting in September.

CER announces fall programs

The Brigantine Community Education and Recreation Department has announced the fall 2013 program.

Courses on weekdays and nights starting Oct. 8 include ballroom and Latin dancing, piano, golf, digital photography, dog obedience, ukulele, jewelrymaking and CPR.

For seniors: computers, senior lite, yoga gentle, zumba toning, senior zumba and senior ballet barre.

Fitness course offerings: tai chi, pilates plus, zumba, spin class, shape up, yoga, qigong and zumba sentao.

Seminars: Meditation; Living an Aromatherapy Life; the Business of Music.

Cultural Arts: painting in acrylics; intermediate watercolors.

Youth Tennis Clinic on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting Sept. 17 at the 42nd Street Tennis Courts.

CER day trips: Oct. 2 to Gettysburg, Pa.; Oct. 12 to New York City; Dec. 7 to Peddlers Village; Dec. 14 to New York City.

Special day trips: Oct. 23 to see the Broadway show ‘Kinky Boots’ and Thursday December 5 to see the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Show.

Southeast Asia cruise aboard Celebrity Millennium, Feb. 27-March 16: Singapore, Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh, Danang, Hanoi and Hong Kong.

Pleasantville

CARE Program taking enrollment

Pleasantville’s 21st Century Community Learning Centers CARE Program — Combining Academics, Recreation and Enrichment — is taking enrollment for the fall.

Enrollment is first come, first served. Students must be in fourth through 12th grades. The program begins Sept. 9 at the Leeds Avenue School at 100 W. Leeds Ave., the South Main Street School at 701 S. Main St., and the Pleasantville Middle School at 801 Mill Road. Program hours are 3 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, as well as days students have off.

The program includes: academic excellence, music, art, poetry, cooking, science, dance, drill team, TV production, gardening and organized sports. events and field trips include: mock election, the aquarium in Camden, Johnson’s Farm, a holiday feast and a 76ers game.

Basketball games to aid PFD firefighter

The Fire Department’s IAFF Local 2616 is sponsoring a basketball doubleheader starting at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 7 at the Pleasantville Rec Center, 400 Brighton Ave.

There is no entry fee, but donations are appreciated. The money raised will go to the medical expense fund for Pleasantville Firefighter Charles “Slim” Lassiter, who is undergoing dialysis three times per week and needs a kidney transplant. Donations can be made out to him and mailed to IAAF Local 2616, P.O. Box 1179, Pleasantville, NJ 08232.

Game 1 features the Atlantic City Fire Department against the Camden F.D., and Game 2 features the Pleasantville F.D. against the Trenton F.D.
