Church, community, Legion to honor Roderick

Atlantic City, a local church and the American Legion Post 61 will join forces to honor and pay tribute to a legendary veteran advocate. Joseph L. Roderick, a past commander of the American Legion Post 61 who fought for the preservation of the All Wars Memorial Building (The Soldier’s Home), will be honored at 3:30 p.m. Sept. 1, at St. James AME Church, 101 N. New York Ave.

The testimonial dinner is open to the public. Individuals desiring tickets may call 609-576-3652. Tickets are $20 per person.

American Legion to hold Fish Fry

The American Legion Kenneth B. Hawkins Post 61 is hosting the monthly Fish Fry and community open house Sept. 6. The Fish Fry will be held each first Friday of the month.

This scholarship fundraising event will be held from 4 until 7:30 p.m. and is open to the public. Veterans and women relatives of veterans are invited to attend and find out how they can become members of the Legion and the Women Auxiliary Unit. The Women Auxiliaries provide much-needed help to our area veterans, military personnel, their families and children,  some in desperate need.

Post 61 new hours of operations are 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays. The post holds its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. every third Thursday of the month.

Brigantine

Bob Ferris Big Band performing Sept. 1

The Bob Ferris Big Band will perform in concert Sept. 1 at 7 p.m. at the Brigantine North School auditorium. The free concert is sponsored by the Brigantine Community Education and Recreation Department.

Church to honor first responders

Epiphany Lutheran Church in Pleasantville will honor first responders Sept. 8.

The 10 a.m. worship service is dedicated to men and women who serve the community. Local police, fire and emergency personnel are invited, as are members of the community and especially children.
