The 61-year-old man who jumped from the sixth floor of a public housing building in Atlantic City Monday morning has died, authorities confirmed today.
He stepped onto the window ledge outside his Altman Terrace apartment shortly before 11 a.m. Monday, prompting on-site security to call police to the complex at Pennsylvania and Arctic avenues.
Some officers had started walking inside to talk to him when he jumped. Afterward, his neighbors were optimistic about his prognosis because a tree broke his fall and he was semi-conscious as emergency medical personnel loaded him onto a stretcher.
But he died of head trauma and multiple chest fractures around 5:30 p.m. Monday at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s City Campus, police said.
Altman Terrace is a public housing authority building for elderly residents.
