A 21-year-old Mays Landing man was shot in the leg in Atlantic City on Thursday night.

Detective Franco Sydnor and Officer Andre Corbin were in the 1300 block of Magellan Avenue conducting an investigation at 7:19 p.m., when they heard the gunshots about a block away, Sgt. Monica McMenamin said.

Tashawn Manuel was hanging outside with a group of friends in the 400 block of N. South Carolina Avenue, when they heard gunshots and he was struck. The man ran inside a nearby home, the resident told police.

The city's new ShotSpotter audio gunshot detection system recorded five shots, McMenamin said.

Several people were outside when the shots began, but ran in different directions. Some on dirt bikes rode off west toward Stanley Holmes Village, McMenamin said.

Witnesses described two suspects as black males, one wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and the other wearing a green camouflage cap and brown jacket.

Sydnor is leading the investigation.
