Pleasantville police recovered two stolen cars within about 10 minutes Sunday afternoon -- and arrested two local teenagers.
Police were called to the Sunoco at New Road and Park Avenue at 4:39 p.m., after a man called to say he saw his 2003 BMW, which had been stolen from Ridgewood Avenue in the morning.
When Officer Elvis Nunez arrived, he confirmed the car was the man's, Sgt. T.J. Zyckowski said. The two men inside had already fled.
About 10 minutes later, while checking for the two males, Nunez saw another a 2005 Mazda with four men in the area of Tremont and McKinley avenues. When Nunez tried to stop them, they fled on foot, according to the report.
Nunez caught the driver, identified as a 16-year-old male from Pleasantville. Officer Mike Figueroa saw one of the passengers, who was quickly apprehended by Officer Andre Graves, Zyckowski said.
That male is also from Pleasantville and is 14.
Police later found that the Mazda had been stolen from Absecon.
The juveniles wree charged with multiple offenses, including resisting arrest and receiving stolen property.
The 14-year-old was released. The 16-year-old will be sent to Harborfields Juvenile Detention Center in Egg Harbor City.
The case is being investigated by Nunez, along with Detectives Richard Henderson and Miguel Lugo. The Absecon Police Department is also investigating.
