Plans to rebuild Steeplechase Pier continue to progress as Resorts Casino Hotel has applied to the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority for local land use approvals needed for the $6 million project.
Last month, Resorts applied to the state for an environmental permit for the project that would construct Margaritaville Landshark Bar & Grill and a connected surf shop in the footprint of the former pier, which was destroyed by a 1988 fire. The plans calls for island-themed landscaping with 9-foot-tall artificial palm trees.
Resorts, which owns the development rights for the former pier, has applied to CRDA for site plan approval, variance relief and waiver relief. A public notice regarding the application states that there are plans to place six mounted roof signs on the pier and one on the casino, all of which require variances.
A public hearing on the project will take place at 10 a.m. July 19 at CRDA offices, 15 South Pennsylvania Ave. Resorts' application is on file for public inspection at the same location.
The project could begin as soon as September, and it would take a year to complete, according to the environmental permit application.
