A New York man was sentenced to three years in prison Monday for leading police on a chase down the Atlantic City Boardwalk last year.

John Thompson, 28, of Staten Island, N.Y., was sentenced for second-degree eluding, which he pleaded guilty to in December, acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain said. He also pleaded guilty to DWI.

Thompson drove his vehicle on the Boardwalk at a high speed causing pedestrians and an Atlantic City bike officer to dart out of the way. Multiple city police officers pursued Thompson who was apprehended at the Atlantic City Expressway toll plaza when he stopped to pay the toll.

Thompson’s passenger John Sulmonee, 33, jumped out of the car during the chase and sustained nonlife-threatening injuries.
