BRIGANTINE - A Ventnor man injured two Brigantine police officers Tuesday evening following a chase, police said.

Det. Jack Glasser spotted a man he knew to have outstanding warrants at about 7:45 p.m., Lt. James Bennett said. As Glasser and officer George O’Donoghue approached the man, identified as Marianato Ruiz, 36, of Ventnor, he turned and tried to flee.

After a short pursuit on foot, the officers were able to catch him, Bennett said, but not until after Ruiz physically resisted and caused injuries to both officers. Glasser and O’Donoghue both sustained minor injuries, including cuts, scrapes and bruises.

Ruiz was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, two counts of aggravated assault on police and hindering apprehension, in addition to the warrants. He was taken to the Atlantic County jail in lieu of bail.
