Two males were arrested Monday after police received a call about a gun - and found it inside a mailbox.

Police received an anonymous tip after 5:30 p.m. that there were two males on South New Hampshire Avenue and one was waving a silver handgun around, Lt. Ralph Meyers said.

Officers Scott Sendrick and Kevin Sketers saw two males matching the description of two seen in the area and searched them, but found nothing. They then saw an open mailbox in the 100 block of South New Hampshire with a .357 silver handgun inside, Meyers said.

The gun was not loaded and no rounds were recovered, he said.

One male is a 17-year-old from the city. The other is Kabir McCoy, 20, also of the city, police said.

Both were taken into custody and will be charged with possession of a handgun. There could be further charges, Meyers said.

Anyone with information about weapons in the city is asked to call police at 609-347-5766 or Crime Stoppers at 609-652-1234. Information may also be sent anonymously by texting tip411 (847411) beginning the text with ACPD.
