The woman charged with the murder of two Canadian tourists in Atlantic City was indicted Tuesday, acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain said.
Antoinette Pelzer, 44, of Philadelphia was indicted on eight counts, including murder, in the deaths of Po Lin Wan, 80, and Alice Mei See Leung, 47, a mother and daughter from Ontario, Canada, the prosecutor said in a release.
The Canadians were walking in the 1900 block of Pacific Avenue in May when Pelzer allegedly tried to rob them and then stabbed them repeatedly with a 12-inch butcher knife.
An Atlantic City police officer witnessed the stabbing and intervened. The officer took Pelzer into custody.
Both victims were transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, city campus in Atlantic City, where they later died of their injuries.
“Leung suffered stab wounds to her upper body and died of multiple sharp force injuries and cardiac puncture, according to autopsy reports,” the release said. “Wan was reportedly stabbed in the lower body, hand and shoulder while coming to the assistance of Leung. Wan died of multiple sharp force injuries with exsanguination.”
Pelzer remains in custody on $1.5 million cash bail.
