Atlantic Christian School in Egg Harbor Township is partnering with Gospel Outbound, a Christian missions agency in Millville, to sponsor RUN4KIDZ, a 5K Run/Walk and a Kids 5K on April 13, to raise money for Atlantic Christian School students and orphans in Uganda. Gospel Outbound's mission is to empower and assist churches in the United States, Uganda and South Sudan by helping to send missionaries to serve in the latter two countries. A major focus of the organization's mission, and of RUN4KIDZ, is raising funds for the care of orphans in Uganda.

Gospel Outbound President Brian Wheaton said orphan children make up 10 percent of Uganda's population, and the average Ugandan dies by age 52. Gospel Outbound works in partnership with a nonprofit group called New Hope for Africa, based in Uganda, which provides education, board and meals to many of the country's orphans.

Thirty percent of the funds raised through RUN4KIDZ will go to New Hope For Africa. The remaining 70 percent will benefit the Atlantic Christian School for building maintenance and educational opportunities for its students.

"Being able to raise for orphans in Uganda is the extra bonus of this event," said Cory Taylor, communication director at Atlantic Christian School. "God tells us not to just to take care of ourselves, but everybody. When we're able to reach outside of our little world and help not only our kids, but kids around the world, it's a blessing."

This is the first time Atlantic Christian School and Gospel Outbound are partnering for an event, though not the last. They plan to make RUN4KIDZ an annual joint fundraiser. All are welcome to participate, including adult walkers and runners, and children runners. The kids 5K will be set up in sections, with activity stations held at checkpoints.

"The children will run first, so they will be finished in time to cheer on their parents," Taylor said.
