Power has been restored to a blackout-prone neighborhood in the Scullville section of Egg Harbor Township.

Lou Cascione, whose wife Rita suffers from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, said crews from Delaware and Ohio arrived on Frank Lane Tuesday evening. One crew trimmed the trees which overhang the power lines while the other worked to restore power, he said.

"To see them do their job was fantastic," he said Wednesday morning. "The whole neighborhood clapped - everyone was so happy."

The Scullville neighborhood experiences about a dozen outages each year, neighbors said.

The Casciones had relied on a gas-powered generator for more than two days to power the equipment Rita Cascione needs to breathe. They had been told their power wouldn't be restored until Friday, or even Sunday, Lou Cascione said.

Lou Cascione said Atlantic City Electric also called and offered to expedite the application process to add his wife to a list of customers whose power should be restored immediately after an outage.

"The only thing I felt bad about was there are still people without power," he said.

As of 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, there were 1,933, customers without power in South Jersey, including 729 in Atlantic County.
