EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – As part of their training, 16 K-9 units took part in a training exercise Thursday morning at the William J. Hughes Tech Center with the United States Coast Guard.

Many of the units were from local towns and cities.

Pilots with the Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City took each dog up in the air briefly before setting them back down.

The training is designed to familiarize the dogs with the sound of the helicopters and the sensation of flying. Although the K-9 units are not typically deployed with helicopters, they can be used in a missing-person case.
