Frozen turkeys, among other holiday food items, are in need at the Community FoodBank of New Jersey, which held a turkey drive in the morning on Nov. 10.
Items requested include frozen turkeys — fresh turkeys will not be accepted — canned soups, stews, fruits, vegetables, pasta, rice, grains and other nonperishable foods. All donated items should be canned, not in glass jars or bottles. Items can be dropped off at the food bank, located at 6735 Black Horse Pike in Egg Harbor Township.
Organizations have been donating hundreds of turkeys at a time, including casinos such as Resorts, which donated 100, and Tropicana, which donated 200, said Margie Barham, executive director of the Southern Branch.
“Some people are bringing in their free turkeys that the supermarkets sometimes give out,” Barham said.
Most of the affiliated agencies who draw from the food bank have already gotten their delivery of turkeys, but the food bank will continue to collect items at the EHT location.
“If they don’t get used for Thanksgiving they can always be used for Christmas,” Barham said.
