Driver doesn't stop at red light, causes accident in Egg Harbor Township, police say

A motorist driving through a red light caused an accident on the Black Horse Pike in Egg Harbor Township Friday morning.

Police said the crash occurred at 11:04 a.m. at the pike and Spruce Avenue when Donald Lelion, 62, of Tuckerton drove through a red light at the intersection and struck a vehicle driven by Cherry Johnson, 43, of Egg Harbor Township, police said in a release.

Lelion’s vehicle struck a light standard which fell on his pick-up truck and blocked the westbound lanes of the pike for about an hour as police cleared the roadway.

Both drivers were treated at the scene by the by the Egg Harbor Township Ambulance Squad and transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Pomona with minor to moderate injuries, police said.

Lelion has was issued a summons for disregard of a traffic signal.
