Egg Harbor Township firefighters will be using a soon-to-be-vacant section of the Shore Mall for a series of exercises later this year, officials said Wednesday.

Fire Chief William Danz said he has received permission from the mall’s owner, Cedar Realty Trust, for the township’s five companies to engage in practice drills in the section that is slated to be demolished.

“We can pretty much do anything with that place,” he said.

Danz said a date has not been set for the drills. He may also try to coordinate an activity with the Police Department at the mall, he said.

Township Administrator Peter Miller said it’s fantastic that firefighters will be able to train in the large commercial space.

“You don’t often to get to practice and drill in a building of that size,” he said.
