Egg Harbor Township police arrested a man who allegedly dragged a store employee with his vehicle after trying to flee with a television.

Sgt. Joseph Bonsall said Anthony Hagel, 22, of Hamilton Township, allegedly stole a 32-inch television from the Shop Rite on English Creek Avenue at 5:15 p.m., but a store manager chased him into the parking lot. The manager and Hagel got into a confrontation while Hagel was in his car and tried to drive away, Bonsall said.

The manager was partially inside the car through an open door and he was dragged a “significant distance” as Hagel drove off, Bonsall said. Hagel’s vehicle also struck another car, he said.

The manager suffered minor injuries, Bonsall said. A store employee said he was unavailable for comment Wednesday night.

Police identified Hagel through the store’s surveillance video and were searching for him before Hagel turned himself in later that night, Bonsall said. He was charged with robbery and an outstanding warrant and was transported to Atlantic County jail on $50,000 bail, he said.

More charges are pending, Bonsall said.
