The Egg Harbor Township Police Department is seeking public comment as part of its reaccreditation process.
The department was granted accreditation status by the New Jersey Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission and the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police in 2004 and last reaccredited in 2008.
Chief Michael J. Morris said a team of assessors will examine the department’s policies and procedures Sunday. They will evaluate the department’s compliance with 112 standards, including accountability, community advocacy, operating efficiency and reduced risk and liability exposure, he said.
“Verification by the team that the (department) meets the Commission’s ‘best practice’ standards is part of a voluntary process to achieve reaccreditation, a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence,” he said, in a written statement.
As part of the process, Morris said the public is invited to submit comments via e-mail, letter or phone.
