K-9 Unit competes in Region 15 trials

The Egg Harbor Township Police Department K-9 Unit competed in the United States Police Canine Association’s Region 15 PD1 Trials May 4-5 in Ocean Township.

Members of the Egg Harbor Township K-9 Unit who attended were Sgt. Mike Bordonaro and his partner Shooter, K-9 Officer Mark Mensch and his partner Diesel, K-9 Officer Ken Marchelle and his partner Axl, and K-9 Officer Chris Berry and his partner Blitz.

Bordonaro and Shooter finished third overall, taking first in criminal apprehension, while Marchelle and Axl finished in a three-way tie for first in obedience. The four K-9 teams all achieved their PD1 certifications and qualified for the national competition in Washington, D.C., in October.

The PD1 Certification process tests the K-9 teams’ abilities in areas such as obedience, agility, suspect and article search and criminal apprehension.
