EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP — Atlantic County officials expect to discuss plans to reconfigure the intersection of Fire and Mill roads at the township’s municipal building Wednesday night.

The county said it plans to add traffic lanes to the intersection in order to increase capacity and ease congestion, as well as do related road and bridge work. The county said it plans to award a contract in late March, with the first phase of construction beginning in late spring or early summer.

State Department of Transportation records show about 22,300 cars use Fire Road and 7,800 use Mill Road every day. Traffic jams are frequent on Fire Road at the peak times, which the DOT identifies as around 8 a.m. and 4:45 p.m.
