Credit union honors Wilson

In celebration of Jersey Shore Federal Credit Union’s 50th anniversary, the credit union honored Norm Wilson, of Egg Harbor Township, as its Community Star Winner for going above and beyond the ordinary to serve the community and has made a positive difference in the lives of others.

Wilson is the founder of the Atlantic City Fire Departments Sandpipers Pipes and Drums. The band was formed with Wilson’s vision to honor and pay respect to those in public safety and the military that lost their lives in the line of duty by playing bagpipes at their funerals. After Sept. 11 he went to ground zero and played at as many funerals as he could. In addition, his band holds annual fundraisers and has given out more than $70,000 in scholarships to high school seniors.

Wilson volunteers many hours for Habitat for Humanity and during the last hurricane; he was the guiding force for the band to donate $5,000 to the Community FoodBank. He also makes Thanksgiving dinners for needy families and helps people who are fighting cancer by driving them to their doctor’s appointments.
