The Atlantic City Hotel and Lodging Association Scholarship Foundation awarded scholarships to 17 students pursuing hospitality or culinary careers at its annual Scholarship Awards Luncheon on April 23 at the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa.
The ACHLA Scholarship Foundation has awarded more than $300,000 in its history. This year’s recipients are students at Atlantic Cape Community College, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Richard Stockton College and Rutgers University. Many also work in area hospitality or culinary jobs. They included Olga Koteva-Gorgiev, of Egg Harbor Township.
Agabalogun wins scholarship
Omolola Agabalogun, a senior at Egg Harbor Township High School, was one of two recipients of this year’s Atlantic Audubon Society Patricia and Carol Bristow Scholarship. This $1,000 award is presented to select, female Atlantic County high school seniors who plan to pursue higher education and a career in the sciences.
Shanna Taub, of Egg Harbor Township, graduated with a BS in visual arts education and BFA in printmaking from the State University of New York at New Paltz on May 19.
Baumgartel wins scholarship
The New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association has announced that Christopher Baumgartel, of Egg Harbor Township, is among the 25 graduating seniors in New Jersey who will be awarded 2012-13 Student Leadership Scholarships.
Each scholarship carries a $2,000 award for the recipient’s demonstrated leadership in school activities for participation in co-curricular activities other than athletics. Winners are selected from each of the three regions of the state, north, central and south.
Students win in musical competition
The Esther Weil Ocean City Pops Student Competition took place May 14 at the Ocean City Music Pier. Winners included:
First Place Vocal Division $1,000, Lindsey Burton, Egg Harbor Township High School, “Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again”
Third Place Vocal Division $250, Taria Mitchell, Egg Harbor Township High School, “Bist Du Bei Mir”
First Place Instrumental Division $1,000, Clifford Morin, Egg Harbor Township High School, saxophone, Handel’s Sonata No. 3 (Adagio and Allegro)
Third Place Instrumental Division $250, Jamie Wechsler, Egg Harbor Township High School, piano, “Freshman”
Costello graduates cum laude
David Costello, of Egg Harbor Township, graduated cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in physical education May 11 when members of the Class of 2013 walked across the stage May 11, to receive their degrees from Coastal Carolina University in Conway, S.C.
Castello wins award at Millersville University
Laura S. Castello, of Egg Harbor Township, received the Class of 1927 Award at Millersville (Pa.) University’s Honors and Awards Convocation, held May 4 on campus in the Student Memorial Center.
More than 750 students were recognized at this convocation for their academic accomplishments including impressive grade point averages, departmental awards for excellence in an academic major, community involvement and Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference scholar athletes.
