Firefighters put out a seven-acre forest fire in the area of S. Mount Airy Road off Zion Road, near Emerald Golf Links Saturday afternoon.
Bargaintown Fire Chief Gene Sharpe said the call came in at 3:25 p.m. and the fire was under control by 6 p.m., in spite of heavy winds. It was mainly a forest fire, but the blaze also destroyed an old shack in the woods, he said.
There were no injuries.
“No houses were damaged, but it came close,” Sharpe said. “The firemen did great job. The wind was pushing really hard.”
It was the second fire in the township Saturday. A morning house fire in the Farmington section displaced six people.
