A Galloway Township man was killed and two others injured Monday afternoon in a three-car accident on Route 9, police said.

Robert J. Cronauer, 77, a passenger in one of the cars, died of his injuries when the cars collided at about 12:55 p.m., police said.

Beth Reed, 42, of Galloway Township, was driving north on Route 9, near the intersection of Chanese Lane, when she rear-ended a car driven by Satira Hill, 46, of Somers Point, police said. The impact forced Hill's car into the southbound lane, where it crashed head-on with a car driven by Marie Cronauer, 70, of Galloway.

Cronauer suffered serious internal injuries and was airlifted to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus, police said. Her passenger, Robert Cronauer, was taken to ARMC, Mainland Campus, where he died. It appears that neither one was wearing a seat belt, police said.

Hill, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered internal injuries and was taken to ARMC, Mainland Campus, police said. Reed and her 4-year-old passenger, who were both properly restrained, were not injured.

The Bayview and Oceanville fire companies responded to the scene, police said. Route 9 was closed for about two hours while the accident was investigated and cleared.
