For Galloway Township's Shane Bell, who attended the Assumption Regional Catholic School from kindergarten through eighth grade, the school will always remain close to his heart.

When it came time for the Holy Spirit High School sophomore and longtime member of Galloway Township's Boy Scout Troop 634 to plan his Eagle Scout project, he could think of no better organization to help than Assumption.

As his project, Bell will purchase and install a set of fitness equipment consisting of a horizontal ladder, a balance beam and a set of uneven bars at the school. He said he came up with the idea as a way to reinforce the school's mission of improving its students' health.

"In recent years, Assumption has been making changes to try to make their students fit and healthy," Bell said. "I figured that would also help because they can use it during gym class and stuff, and it'll help the kids exercise."

While Bell and his fellow scouts will donate their own time to install the equipment, Bell is asking the community for help in covering the cost of the project. The equipment costs about $4,000, and Bell has raised about half that amount so far, he said.
