Galloway Township has once again been awarded a $10,000 grant through the Sustainable Jersey Small Grants Program funded by PSEG. All Galloway residents and small business property owners are eligible to apply for one of 30 $125 mini-grants to help residents begin transitioning their yards into more sustainable landscapes.

If interested, email Barbara Fiedler at for an application and further information. The deadline for applications is Feb. 18. Participation begins with two workshops in March and April that will cover native shrubs, trees and perennials; wise water use; eliminating chemical pesticides; and controlling invasive species. Participants will be instructed in proven landscaping techniques and practices to meet the basic requirements of the program.

Those who successfully fulfill the requirements for the Mini Grant by fall will be reimbursed as much as $125 for the purchase of native plant material. Participants who go on to make additional improvements and who fulfill the requirements of Sustainable Landscaping Caretaker or Sustainable Landscaping Steward also will receive a plaque.

Five of the participating properties will be featured in various local publications and will be part of a Go Green Galloway’s Sustainable Landscape Tour.
