Korte graduates from basic training

Army Reserve Pfc. Nicole E. Korte has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

Korte is the daughter of William Korte, of Egg Harbor City.

She is a 2008 graduate of Absegami High School in Galloway Township.

Pilallis graduates from basic training

Army Pvt. Erica C. Pilallis has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

Pilallis is the daughter of Richard Pilallis, of Egg Harbor, and Michelle Csaszar, of Smithville.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.


 

Cerrato completes basic training

Army Reserve Pvt. Nicholas Cerrato has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

Cerrato is the grandson of Gail and James Norton, of Galloway Township.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.


Ale completes overseas deployment

Army Cpl. Nicholas J. Ale has returned to the U.S. after being deployed overseas at a forward operating base to serve in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

He is the son of Thomas Ale Sr., of South Vine Avenue, and Laura Osnato, of Colonial Court, both of Galloway Township. The corporal is a 2008 graduate of Absegami High School.

Ale is an airborne infantryman assigned to the 4th Airborne Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. He has served in the military for two years.


Bradley-Forman completes basic training

Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Jeremy S. Bradley-Forman graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Bradley-Forman is a 2007 graduate of Holy Spirit High School.

Fellin competes in USS Farragut’s Damage Control Olympics

Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer Victor J. Fellin competed in the ship’s Damage Control Olympics aboard the guided missile destroyer USS Farragut.

DC Olympics provide sailors a chance to have fun while testing and improving the damage control skills they learned through normal training.

Farragut’s DC Olympics consisted of six events including a firefighting ensemble relay, message relay, pipe patching scenario, de-smoking race, stretcher bearer race and a competition to see who could aim a fire hose the best by filling a trash can with the water stream. Six teams participated in the DC Olympics. Each team comprised members from the different repair lockers aboard the ship.

Fellin is a 1985 graduate of Holy Spirit High School.


Shah completes basic training

Army Pvt. Jainaj B. Shah has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission and received instruction and training exercises in drill and ceremonies, Army history, core values and traditions, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, rifle marksmanship, weapons use, map reading and land navigation, foot marches, armed and unarmed combat, and field maneuvers and tactics.

Shah is the son of Bipin and Ilaxi Shah, of Galloway Township. He is a 2009 graduate of Absegami High School.


Hoffman graduates from basic

Air Force Airman Kara M. Hoffman has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

Hoffman is the daughter of Colleen Hoffman, of Galloway Township, and granddaughter of Angelo Genova, of Northfield. She is a 2009 graduate of Holy Spirit High School in Absecon.


Bybee completes basic training

Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Jonathan D. Bybee graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

Bybee completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Bybee is the son of Steven Bybee, of Mays Landing. He is a 2002 graduate of Absegami High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in 2007 from Richard Stockton College.


Taroncher completes basic

Army National Guard Pfc. Richard E. Taroncher has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

Taroncher is the son of Jorge Taroncher, of Galloway Township.


Manahan completes basic training

Army Spec. Christian E. Manahan has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

Manahan is a 2001 graduate of Absegami High School. He earned a bachelor's degree in 2006 from Rutgers University, New Brunswick.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.


Yunes returns from Iraq deployment

Army Spec. Johnny J. Yunes has returned to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst after being deployed to Iraq, serving in support of Operation New Dawn.

Yunes, of Galloway Township, is a power generation equipment repairer with the 77th Sustainment Brigade, Fort Dix, and has served four years in the military.

Members from all branches of the U.S. military and multinational forces were also assisting in rebuilding Iraq’s economic and governmental infrastructure, and training and preparing Iraqi military and security forces to assume full authority and responsibility in defending and preserving Iraq’s sovereignty and independence as a democracy. Operation New Dawn officially came to an end Dec. 15.

Happersett graduates from basic training

Air Force Airman Kyle B. Happersett graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

Happersett is the son of John Happersett and brother of Stephen Happersett, both of Galloway Township, and a 2011 graduate of Absegami High School. He completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

He is the son of Jean Aterio, of Galloway Township. He graduated in 2002 from Hammonton High School and received a bachelor's degree in 2007 from Richard Stockton College.
