State, county and municipal officials opened the doors to the New Day Family Success Center on Jan. 29 in Galloway Township.
Staff members gave public tours of the facility to about 50 people and light refreshments were served to anyone who stopped by the location during the day.
"We want people to know we're here, we're open and we have programs to offer," said Dawn Belamurich, New Day FSC program manager.
Belamurich said the staff is excited about the new facility and is looking forward to meeting their new neighbors in Galloway and the surrounding area.
The facility is located in the Parkview Plaza strip mall, at 622-624 S. New York Road. It replaces the Pleasantville facility, which closed.
The New Day Family Success Center is one of five community-based neighborhood gathering places located in Atlantic County that provides individuals and families with support, information and services that promote self-sufficiency.
Belamurich said programs and activities are based on the needs of the community. Staffers conducted surveys and got a lot of feedback on the needs and wants of residents in the area, she said.
The Family Success Centers are a cooperative effort of Family Service Association, Atlantic County government and the state Division of Children and Families.
Additional Family Success Centers are in Atlantic City, Egg Harbor Township and Hammonton.
The Family Success Centers are funded by the state as "one-stop" shops that serve individuals and families before they find themselves in crisis. There is no cost to access these services.
County officials stressed that the centers are available to meet the needs of all residents.
"For some families, it may be a lack of transportation, language or cultural barriers, unavailability of child care and so on. Staff is there to assist and help guide them towards success," County Executive Dennis Levinson said.
Individuals and families who come to the New Day Family Success Center will have access to family health services information and referrals, life skills training, parent education, workshops and activities designed to provide strength and stability.
Current hours of operation at the Galloway center are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday; and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Staffers said hours may change depending on planned activities.
While no appointments are necessary, visitors are encouraged to call ahead for information.
