A tour bus was fully engulfed in flames Thursday evening on the eastbound White Horse Pike in Galloway Township.

The incident occurred at about 6:33 p.m. when the driver of the Academy bus observed smoke filling the cabin and pulled over to evacuate the bus, police said. All passengers got off safely and were transported to another bus.

Shortly after, the bus was fully engulfed in flames, and firefighters had to block of both directions of the White Horse Pike in order to use a fire hydrant, police said.

All lanes were cleared by 7:55 p.m.

The fire is believed to be electrical, but it is still under investigation, police said.

The incident caused heavy traffic along rerouted roadways including Chris Gaupp Drive, Jimmie Leeds Road and on the Garden State Parkway.
