Two Egg Harbor Township residents died Sunday after the car they were traveling in struck several trees in Galloway Township.

Galloway police said Jaime Carlin, 34, and Shane Brand, 36, died of injuries they suffered in the crash after 2 a.m. on Pitney Road.

The sport utility vehicle, which was being driven by Carlin, was traveling north on Pitney when it veered off the roadway, striking several trees, police said.

Brand was wearing his seat belt, but Carlin was not, police said. Both front airbags deployed. Carlin and Brand had to be extricated from the vehicle by members of the Bayview Volunteer Fire Company.

The road was closed for four hours while the crash was investigated, the vehicle was removed and crews from Atlantic City Electric worked to repair a broken power line, police said.
