A Camden County woman was in stable condition Saturday night at the AtlantCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus, in Atlantic City Saturday after being involved in an auto accident earlier in the day in Galloway Township.
Galloway Township police responded about 8:50 a.m. to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Cologne Avenue and Aloe Street.
Margaret Stringer, 51, of Hammonton, was operating a 2001 Pontiac Montana while traveling northbound on Cologne Avenue, police said. Valerie Sye, 57, of Waterford Works, Camden County, was operating a 2008 Chevy Impala while traveling eastbound on Aloe Street, they said.
Police said Sye failed to stop at a stop sign and her vehicle struck the driver's side of Stringer's car. Stringer's car then ran off of the roadway and struck a utility pole and stop sign on the northeast corner, police said. A traffic light fell into the roadway blocking the intersection.
Stringer was removed from her car by the Germania Fire Department.
Both drivers sustained non-life threatening injuries and were taken to AtlantiCare. No information on Stringer's condition could be obtained Saturday evening.
Sye was issued a summons for careless driving, police said.
Cologne Avenue was closed between US RT-30 and Aloe Ave. Aloe St. was closed westbound between Leipzig and Cologne avenues. The roadway was opened after about four hours. The Atlantic City Electric Co. and the Atlantic County Utilities repaired the traffic light and signs.
