Martha Calderon, 55, of Mays Landing, was driving the bus, carrying 26 students from the Joseph C. Shaner Memorial School on South Third Street, east on Route 40 about 3:45 p.m. when a westbound SUV driven by Tria Jamison-Wright, 28, of Pleasantville, crossed into the eastbound lane while trying to pass other vehicles illegally and struck the school bus, police said.

Four students on the bus and two of the five occupants of the SUV were taken by Township of Hamilton Rescue Squad to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus, in Atlantic City for treatment of injuries, police said. Both vehicles were seriously damaged and had to be towed from the scene.

Traffic on Route 40 was blocked for about an hour while the scene was cleared, police said.
