A postal worker was injured Wednesday when a man tried to rob the post office in the Mizpah section of Hamilton Township.

Federal postal inspectors are offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service said the suspect walked into the post office at 6442 DeHirsch Ave. about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday and threatened a female employee with a weapon. The suspect forced the employee into a back room. The employee fought back and was injured, the agency said.

The suspect restrained the employee and fled the building. Police did not release the name of the employee or the type of weapon used in the attack.

The employee freed herself and called 911. She was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where she was treated for her injuries and released, the agency said.

Township police and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service are investigating.
