An Egg Harbor City man was arrested Sunday night after he allegedly attempted to steal the night deposits from an Atlantic City Race Course employee.

Hamilton Township police said in a news release that Jared Gatto, 24, of Egg Harbor City, walked into the ACRC simulcasting parlor about 11 p.m., wearing a camouflage outfit, black "war paint" on his face, gloves taped at the wrists and carrying a pellet gun.

Gatto demanded to know where money was. He walked behind the counter when he saw an employee walking to the manager's office with a deposit bag. He grabbed the deposit bag from the employee and ran from the office, police said.

Gatto was stopped immediately inside the building by security officer Daniel Mondorf, 28, of Mays Landing, and the track's manager, Robert Ravasio, 58, of Egg Harbor Township. The two were fighting with Gatto to stop him from leaving, when a track patron, Albert Battista, Jr., 66, of Egg Harbor Township, grabbed the deposit bag from Gatto. Ravasio and Mondorf held Gatto against the wall until police arrived. No one was injured, and the amount of cash inside the bag is unknown, police said.

Gatto was charged with robbery, aggravated assault with a handgun, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and theft. He was lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility on $50,000 bail.
