Hamilton Township school briefly locked down, but official say no threat found

The George L. Hess Educational Complex in Mays Landing was shut down for more than an hour this morning as police investigated a report of a suspicious person.

Hamilton Township police said they responded to the elementary school at 9:26 a.m. after it was a reported a suspicious person who may have had a weapon was at the facility.

The school was immediately placed on lockdown and officers and school staff searched the building.

The school was deemed safe and reopened at 11 a.m., police said.
