Nominations sought for Citizen of Year

The Mays Landing Rotary Club is looking for nominations from the community for its Citizen of the Year award. The winner as well as the winner of Business Person of the Year will be celebrated at a gala dinner in the spring 2013.

To qualify, a nominee should live in Hamilton Township, but his or her impact does not need to be limited to Hamilton Township. Submit the name of the nominee, nominee’s contact information, name and contact information of the person making the nomination, and a paragraph or two indicating the reason. The nominee may not be a member of the Mays Landing Rotary Club.

Nominations can be made by postal mail to the Rotary Club of Mays Landing, P.O. Box 481, Mays Landing, NJ 08330. They can also be submitted by email at MaysLandingNominations@gmail.com.

9/11 ceremony scheduled

Hamilton Township will commemorate the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks at 7 p.m. Sept. 11 in Memorial Park, at the intersection of Route 50 and Main Street in downtown Mays Landing.

The ceremony will include video presentations, readings and musical selections from Hamilton Brass and the Community Choir Vocal Ensemble, and candle-lighting. Members of the local emergency services and military personnel will participate. Plans will be outlined for the placement of a permanent marker in the park in memory of 9/11 victims.

Oakcrest Wall of Fame inductees

The Oakcrest Athletic Wall of Fame Committee has announced the Induction Class of 2012: Steven Johnson (1980), football, baseball and community leader; Michael Warker (1999), football, baseball and track; Erica Bell-Henry (2004), basketball; Danielle Hagel (2006), soccer, basketball and softball.

A dinner will take place at Mays Landing Golf and Country Club before the induction ceremony at 4:45 p.m. Sept. 28; dinner costs are $30/adult and $15/child. The unveiling of the new inductees’ plaques on the wall outside the gymnasium area will take place at 7 p.m., and then the induction class of 2012 will be presented to the Oakcrest fans during halftime at the Falcon’s football game with Atlantic City, which begins at 7:30 p.m. To attend the dinner, call the Oakcrest Athletic Office at 609-625-1462 for information.
