A Deptford man who tried to meet up in Mays Landing with a 14-year-old he met online was sentenced to five years in prison Friday.

Michael Schiavo, 53, had been chatting with the “girl” — who was really an investigator with the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office — in an Internet chat room.

When he tried to meet her Oct. 5, 2011, he instead was met by detectives from the Prosecutor’s Office and Hamilton Township Police Department and was taken into custody.

He pleaded guilty last year to attempted luring and attempted sexual assault, both second-degree crimes.

In addition to five years in prison, he will have lifetime parole supervision and must register as a Megan’s Law offender.

Following sentencing, Schiavo was taken into custody.
