A Mays Landing man arrested with a stolen gun and heroin while allegedly driving drunk Thursday morning, according to Hamilton Township police.

At about 2 a.m. Fuquan Gilliard, 28, was stopped in his vehicle in Hamilton Township on suspicion that he was drunk.

Gilliard had an outstanding traffic warrant. While taking him into custody, Ofc. Jeremy Hartman noticed a loaded handgun and more than four ounces of heroin on the floor of the vehicle. The gun was later determined to have been stolen.

Gilliard was charged with more than 10 counts and lodged in the Atlantic County Jail on $100,000.00 bail.

Gilliard was released from prison last July after serving more than six years in an Atlantic City shooting. He was convicted of assault, along with weapons and drug offenses. The 2006 shooting happened outside the home of an off-duty city officer, Garry Stowe, who helped the victim and later helped identify Gilliard as he tried to escape.
