The Heart Institute at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center will hold a free Senior Health Day from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, at the Canoe Club, Hammonton Lake Park, Park Avenue and Egg Harbor Road (County Route 561), according to an ARMC release. The interactive health event will offer a wellness lecture, health information, free screenings, entertainment, light refreshments and lunch. Registration is required.
Howard Axelrod, M.D., cardiovascular surgeon, the Heart Institute, and chairman, Department of Surgery, ARMC, will discuss the latest advances in minimally invasive surgical treatments offered at the Heart Institute. He’ll explain what minimally invasive cardiac surgery is, how it differs from standard surgical procedures and discuss who would be an ideal candidate for minimally invasive surgery. Axelrod will also discuss the signs and risk factors of heart attack and explain the importance of dialing 911 immediately for symptoms.
The Senior Health and Fitness Day will include cardiac risk assessments, interactive “Ask your healthcare professional” sessions, and entertainment by the Ms. New Jersey Senior America Pageant’s Cameo Club.
