A juvenile who escaped from a state Juvenile Justice Commission facility in Egg Harbor City remains at large.

Sharon Lauchaire, spokeswoman for the commission said there is no update on the missing juvenile Thursday.

Egg Harbor City police reported five boys from Camden escaped New Year’s Eve from the Commission’s Southern Residential Community Home in Egg Harbor City and four were eventually caught that night, but one eluded capture.

The residential home is independent from the Harborfields Detention Center, which is secured by guards, Lauchaire said.

The boys were being transported back to the home from a Juvenile Justice Commission regional school when they escaped, she said. They did not escape from inside the building, she said.

The residential home is overseen by staff and used for juveniles who have committed lower-tier crimes or have served in the detention center and are awaiting release, she said.
