The United States Army Corps of Engineers awarded a base bid totaling $4.59 million from to be used for beach fill in Avalon and Stone Harbor.  The intent is to restore the beaches to pre-Hurricane Irene conditions.

Norfolk Dredging Company, which is the successful bidder on the project, said it will have a dredge in place by Dec. 15, according to the release. They will have 60 days to complete the beach fill. Once the work is complete in one community, it will take seven days to move the equipment to the second community.
