People will run all through South Jersey this weekend to honor those from the state who died serving their country.

The annual NJ Run for the Fallen will start at 6 p.m. today at Sunset Beach in Cape May with a special flag ceremony and reading of the names of local soldiers who have died.

The event will continue Friday, when participants will begin the first of three straight days running a total of 180 miles from Cape May to the N.J. Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial in Holmdel, Monmouth County.

The runners will go through Cape May County on Friday and Atlantic County on Saturday. They will stop every mile and hold a dedication ceremony to honor individual soldiers. They will present a flag and personalized biographical card to waiting family members, friends and comrades at every stop.
