Free rabies clinic planned

Middle Township Mayor Tim Donohue has announced that the township will offer a free rabies clinic from 2 to 3 p.m. May 3.

The clinic will take place at the Middle Township Department of Public Works, 400 W. Mechanic St., Cape May Court House. The clinic occurs as a state-required dog census continues by the Middle Township Office of Animal Control. This clinic will be the last opportunity in 2014 to receive a free rabies vaccination for your dog or cat.

2014 dog licenses will be available at the clinic at a cost of $11.20 for a dog not neutered or spayed, and $8.20 for a neutered or spayed dog. All dogs older than 6 months must be licensed Jan. 31 each year. A current rabies vaccination is required to receive a license. A stray dog that carries a proper license can be easily returned to its owner when found; recovering a lost dog at a shelter can cost the pet owner at least $45, while all licenses cost less than $12.00. Fines for failing to license a dog start at $50 plus $33 in court costs.

To acquire a dog license, township residents can visit the Middle Township Municipal Building. Applications also are available at, along the left side of the home page. For more information, call 609-465-8732.
