WILDWOOD – An 18-year-old from National Park, Gloucester County, was held on $500,000 bail in Cape May County jail after a Thursday night police stop uncovered a cache of weapons.

Police said they stopped Joseph Mitchell in the 100 block of East Rio Grande Avenue at around 7 p.m. and the officer could clearly see some weapons in the vehicle.

Police said they found Mitchell also had an unspecified warrant for his arrest, and he was taken into custody. Police impounded the Ford Expedition Mitchell was driving.

After getting a search warrant for the car, police said they found an unspecified amount of methamphetamine and weapons that included three handguns and ammunition, a stun-gun disguised as cell phone, five knives and a dagger, two wooden clubs, an expandable baton, and what police described as a “large wooden stick with a metal hook protruding from one end.”

Police charged Mitchell with one third-degree count of drug possession and a dozen weapons charges. These included six second-degree, two third-degree and four fourth-degree charges.
