WILDWOOD – City firefighters spent two hours Thursday morning extinguishing a boat fire at 504 Rio Grande Avenue.

Deputy Fire Chief Daniel Speigel said fire crews were called at 3:01 a.m. to the scene of the fire, a 35 foot ocean yacht docked next to the Boat House restaurant.

Speigel said firefighters encountered smoke coming from the boat and as they began working to douse the fire they also searched for any occupants.

The vessel was unoccupied at the time of the incident, Speigel said.

The fire appears to be accidental, but remains under investigation by the Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office and the Fire Department.
