Church receives award

Bishop Edgar Robinson and Icy Wilson, LPN, parish nurse, of Christ Gospel Church in Whitesboro, were presented with a $250 check in recognition of the church’s support of breast cancer awareness.

In the past year, Christ Gospel Church has successfully encouraged 65 women to obtain mammograms.

For many years, Christ Gospel Church has continued to support the Parish Nursing Program through health fairs, chronic disease self-management classes, the Susan G. Komen Grant and other health education events.

The award is part of an incentive program through a Central and South Jersey Affiliate Susan G. Komen Reach-Out for Life Grant administered by Cape Regional Medical Center.

A stipend of $250 is awarded to each church that sponsors and signs up 10 or more women for mammograms.

Rowe receives certificate

The Academy of Culinary Arts at Atlantic Cape Community College awarded certificates to nine students who completed a five-month noncredit Culinary Arts Training Program Nov. 14, and among them was Justin Rowe, of Rio Grande.

The students received their certificates during an awards ceremony in Careme’s, the student-run gourmet restaurant at the academy. Chef Jon Davies, of Cape May, an adjunct instructor, taught the course.

The next course begins Jan. 7, at Atlantic Cape’s Cape May County Campus, 341 Court House-South Dennis Road, in Cape May Court House.

Restaurateurs can sponsor a promising employee with a scholarship for the program.
