A Northfield woman was driving her son home Wednesday morning on the Downbeach Expressway and accidentally swerved into the water.

Kathy Fruscio was driving westbound at about 9:30 a.m. when an oncoming car drive too close to her, causing her to swerve, she said.

Her white Mustang then skid off the road an into the water.

"We just floated. I was so scared because I don't know how to swim," she said.

Fruscio and her son, Raymond, struggled to get onto the roadway through waist-high water, she said.

She was visibly shaken and upset, anxious to know the condition of her car.

Egg Harbor Township police were at the scene investigating.

A tow truck came at about 10:10 am to pull the vehicle out.
