Music lecture set
Learn about “The Golden Thread,” a series of musical connections through time, at the January free music lecture by Paul M. Somers, sponsored by the Bay-Atlantic Symphony.

Art center offers workshop, classes
The Ventnor Community Cultural Art Center is offering classes and workshops in the new year.
On Jan. 5, the first one-day workshop will teach participants to make a Kumihimo Sea Goddess Necklace. The workshop runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. or until participants are finished. The cost is $125 and includes all the beads, charms, tools and findings. Bring a lunch or order out for lunch break; the studio has a microwave and a refrigerator. To register, call 609-287-6449.
Winter jewelry and metalsmithing class help participants learn to work with metal, stones and beads, learn traditional techniques and develop individual style; make pins, earrings, necklaces and bracelets; and learn to work with glass, crystal, semiprecious stones, beads and metal jewelry findings. The seven-week courses begin Jan. 11-12 and end Oct. 19-20.
10 a.m. to noon, Beading: Learn techniques and materials including: bead stringing and pearl knotting, catches and findings to enhance designs. Learn how beads are made and how to use them.
12:15 to 2 p.m., Beginners Metalsmithing (Metals 1): For beginners and those looking for a creative outlet. Learn methods of cold-joining metals and stones, work with wire and sheet metals,piercing, sawing, riveting, drilling, polishing, finishing and more.
2:15 to 4:15 p.m. Intermediate Metalsmithing (Metals 2): For students who have metalworking skills from Beginners Metalsmithing. Learn how to use a jewelers torch, bezel and prong settings, making chain, stamping, stone setting and more.
All seven-week classes are $155 and include tools and materialsm, which includes copper and brass metal. Students also can buy sterling silver, pearls and other specialty items for an additional fee. For information on any class, call 609-287-6449 or 609-823-7952.
Volunteers needed for senior shuttle
Volunteers are needed for the Ventnor Senior Citizen Transportation Service.
This free shuttle service is available to all senior citizens residing in Ventnor and offers rides to anywhere in the Downbeach area of Ventnor, Margate and Longport. This service is performed by volunteer dispatchers and drivers, who are always needed to support this program.
