Police plan DWI checkpoint

Latest Video

The Ventnor City Police Department has announced its plan to use a DWI checkpoint again this year in an effort to prevent motorists from driving while intoxicated.

The checkpoint is to be funded by Drunk Driving Enforcement Funds, which is collected by the municipal court as added costs, in addition to fines levied against people found guilty of driving while intoxicated.

Additional funding was made available through the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office. Officers will assist from county police departments that have conducted checkpoints through the summer under the supervision of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.

The checkpoint will be set up in a high visibility area to discourage people from drinking and driving, but police did not disclose its location.
